Road Session on 30th CANCELLED

Sorry to say that I'm unable to lead a road session as previously advertised now.  Unfortunately, I have mixed up my dates and realise that I'm racing on that day.

I will be available to lead a road session, for those interested, the following Saturday, 6th September.  This is to cater for anyone who is interested in continuing road skills as an alternative to 'cross.

Thanks, Tony H

Hetton Coaching Session - Saturday 16th August

Hi all you budding road warriors!  I'm leading a long session this Saturday covering Downhill Braking and Cornering and going downhill in general.  This is suitable to all who did my last session a fortnight ago.

I will use the main climb up to the usual finish line - this is nice and open  and will give us the chance to create some difficulty.  See both session plans, which I've uploaded to the site and are attached here.

I would like some help from one of our parents to marshal the start or turns, so I can observe technique.

Hetton Coaching Session - Saturday 2nd August

Hello everyone - just to notify you that I will be offering a three-hour session next Saturday (2nd August) from 9am - 12 noon to do some Gear 5 Road techniques and skill development. The sessions are Cornering, Line Selection and Hazards.  These are interlinked.

Jon Bateman and myself are working up 12 sessions, with session plans available for coaches.  I will post the three sessions by Thursday at the latest and advise on which part of the website they can be found.

North East Youth Tour - 2008

North East Youth Tour Race Programme is presented below.

Many thanks to all who have pre entered, this will assist greatly on the Saturday.

We do have entry on the day so make your way across to the North East for a super weekend of racing at a quite unique racing circuit.

Please note that racing will start at 10.30 on Saturday, this is to accomodate competitors who are travelling considerable distances to attend.

Track Developments in the North East

Some of you may have heard of plans to establish a new open air velodrome in the North East.  In fact, there are two possibilities, which is very hopeful for our region.  First and most advanced is a plan to develop a velodrome in Darlington based on an old cinder track on the outskirts of the town.  This would be quite a large track with a tarmac surface and moderate banking - 490 metres or so.  For comparison, Manchester is 250 metres.  It is understood that work on this may start early in 2009.

Thanks

Just a line or two to say "thanks" to all the members who encouraged me last Saturday during the senior Coalfield Race.  I felt proud to be wearing Hetton Hawks kit - even though I'm obviously over 23..........

That was my first road race for ten years - I think.  Everything was going fine until my lack of racing caught up with me, then it was time to pack .........until next time!  Cheers Tony H.
