The Human Power Station
Did any one watch this on TV tonight? It was about the amount of electricity we use without thinking about it. A group of 70 cyclists attempted to power a house for a day using only pedal power, turbo trainers. The cyslists had to keep up with familys electricity demands. Breakfast time was a hard pedal, the kettle used 30 cyclists, toaster used 9, and the microwave used 14 cyclists, so over 50 riders at full thrust for breakfast alone. The electric shower took all 70 riders, riding like mad to power it. By the end of the day, 8 hours, the cyclists were worn out, and couldnt keep up with the electircity demands. They were moaning when one of the family put the kettle on, or oven, or iron because they had to cycle harder to stop a power cut. Anyway, we have over 40 members at Hetton so I reckon with our energy we could keep the Metro Centre christmas lights a glow!!! ANY ONE UP FOR IT?

Metro Centre?
Tony Hodgson
Joe, I meant to see this programme and forgot to record it so will have a look on i-player. It might take CONSIDERABLY more riders to power the Metro Centre - I think powering a nuclear submarine would be easier! All those Christmas lights at the Metro for one thing!
I'll have to bring my head-testing kit tomorrow......
