Hello to all the new comers
If you are thinking of coming to Hetton to train between September and February you will have caught the winter season where we all do cyclo cross/mountain biking .
If you don’t know what cyclo cross is, it’s when you ride on the grass on a bike that looks like a racer but has knobbly tyres. We train on the grass this keeps us fit ready for the summer season. It is hard but fun because we don’t just ride around the grass for an hour or so, we learn skills like how to get on and off our bikes for obstacles and practise corners and things like that. We also learn how to control our bikes through tricky parts like in the woods. These sessions are real fun because it gives us chance to meet up with our friends/team mates and have a laugh whilst training hard.
For cyclo cross training you don’t need to have a cyclocross bike lots of people just use mountain bikes. All you need is sensible shoes, helmet and gloves. It gets cold up at Hetton so you will need to wrap up warm. Another good thing to bring is a change of clothes as we sometimes get really muddy. (This stops parents moaning about you getting in their car all muddy.) The centre should be open to get changed in and most important of all the tuck shop.
Dont be worried about anything because there is always somebody there to talk to and you will soon make friends believe me. If you are unsure of anything email me (my email address is on the contacts page) I will be able to help and if I can’t I will pass it on to someone else in the club or my dad (Neil) who will be able to.
I hope this encourages newcomers to turn up to our training sessions on a Saturday morning J
All the times and dates are on the web site in the diary dates section.
See you there!!!
