Gear Selection and Attacking
Submitted by TonyF on 18 May 2012 - 8:18am.The session this Saturday has been devised by Ian Murray, as part of his Level 2 Road and TT coaching qualification, and will concentrate on being inthe right gear for attacking in a road race. First a review of gear selection to remind ourselves that some are harder to turn than others and then moving on to some race scenarios....it must be summer!

What's all this gear restriction stuff?
Submitted by TonyF on 4 May 2012 - 5:10pm.Welcome to the murky world of age-related cycle racing, where gears are restricted in each age group. Attached are a couple of documents that help explain what gear you will need for your age group; if you are going to race you will need to know this and have your gear appropriately changed - this is not as painful as it sounds and this will be part of the session on 5th May.

5th May 2012: Getting ready to race
Submitted by TonyF on 4 May 2012 - 4:27pm.This week we are concentrating on some essential race skill - and some of these are not that obvious to new riders. For example, did you know that there is a gear restriction associated with each age group? That means that before each race, your gears will be checked so that you are not gaining an unfair advantage on the competition! Other key skills are starting well - you don't win a race from the start, but you can lose it if you are still clipping in when everyone else is 100 m down the road!
